Orcutt adjoins Santa Maria on the south, 6 miles from the center of the city by road, approximate, and our trucks have three ways in:

• Broadway - the 135, south through Santa Maria onto the Orcutt Expressway, with an on-ramp at Clark Avenue and a frontage road to Union Valley Parkway.
• US 101 - exit 166 for Union Valley Parkway or exit 165 for Clark Avenue, which runs across Orcutt from the 101 to Highway 1.
• Highway 1 - down the town's west side; the 135 bounds Orcutt on the east and south.

Which way the truck comes depends on where the car is sitting, so the cross street is the first thing we ask. The arrival window comes on the call, and the price comes before the truck moves, at three in the morning or at noon. Both agency offices named below keep weekday hours; our trucks do not.

Highway 135 through Orcutt is the Orcutt Expressway in Caltrans's own notices. When Caltrans closed the northbound Clark Avenue on-ramp for maintenance on June 5, 2026, its detour ran along the frontage road to Union Valley Parkway.

A car that stops on the expressway has through traffic beside it. If it is in a lane, call 911 before you call us; if it made the shoulder, put the hazards on and get everyone out through the doors farthest from traffic. Either way, a tow off the Orcutt Expressway goes where you name, unless an officer directs otherwise. When two cars collided northbound near East Union Valley Parkway one June morning in 2019 and one of them hit a light pole, it was CHP officers who responded, and the northbound lanes were clear by 7:01 that morning.

Off the expressway, the roads the county picked for a wall-cleaning and painting project that began in July 2026 are the town's busy ones: Clark Avenue from Highway 1 to the 101, Union Valley Parkway, and South Bradley Road from Santa Maria Way to Rice Ranch Road, with Orcutt Road, Foster Road and Lakeview Road in later phases. Union Valley Parkway meets South Bradley Road at a busy intersection.

Schools add foot traffic. In April 2026 county Public Works replaced the two-way stop at Hummel Drive and Union Valley Parkway with a signal, after a traffic study found enough pedestrians, students among them, to warrant one.

Orcutt is unincorporated Santa Barbara County, 32,034 people at the 2020 Census, and the CHP's Santa Maria office calls it one of the largest unincorporated towns in California. There is no city police department and no city council writing Orcutt's parking rules.

Traffic belongs to the CHP. Its enforcement policy assigns it traffic law enforcement on every non-freeway street and highway in unincorporated areas, as well as on the freeways, so a crash on Clark Avenue or the Orcutt Expressway, and the tow that clears it, is a matter for the CHP Santa Maria Area at 1710 North Carlotti Drive, open weekdays 8 to 5.

General law enforcement is the Sheriff's. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Santa Maria Station, 812-A West Foster Road, covers about 800 square miles of unincorporated territory around the city, including Orcutt, Sisquoc, Casmalia, Tepesquet, Tanglewood and Los Alamos, and keeps weekday hours of 8 to 5 with the noon hour closed.

At 6 miles, distance is a small part of an Orcutt quote and the vehicle is the larger one. The wheel-lift handles a front-wheel-drive car bound for a Clark Avenue shop. All-wheel drive, electric, lowered or a motorcycle rides the flatbed even across town, because the reasons the manufacturers give do not shrink with the mileage.

An Orcutt call does not always end in a tow: a battery that quit in a driveway off Rice Ranch Road or in a school parking lot, a flat on Bradley Road, keys on the seat. That is a dead battery or flat handled in Orcutt, and the car stays where it is, running.
